Buying Twitch followers: what changes?

It changes what the channel page says — and the channel page is read mostly when you are not streaming.

It does not change live audience. That second half matters more than it looks on Twitch, because almost everything the platform measures depends on it.

First: the criteria changed this year

If you read somewhere that the Affiliate Program asks for 50 followers, that text is out of date. Twitch announced new criteria in May 2026, rolled out in early June:

Now look at the whole table, not just the last row: three of the four criteria are about streaming and live audience. Hours, days and concurrent viewers only move while you are on air with people watching. A purchased follower does not watch, so it moves none of the three.

The fourth criterion is followers, and it is now the lowest of the four. Worth saying what cannot be said: we do not claim that buying qualifies you for the programme. The criteria belong to Twitch, it measures however it wants, and no store answers for a platform decision. Twitch itself is explicit about what the programme unlocks: "streamers must earn Partner or Affiliate status to receive a payout".

Live notifications do not work the way most people believe

This is the part most people get wrong, sellers included.

The belief is that every follower is one more notification when you go live. That is not what Twitch does. In December 2025 it published how sending works, and there are two settings on the follower's side:

"Always: Selecting this setting guarantees you will receive all notifications for a channel"

"Personalized: This setting works exactly as it did before and personalizes the notifications you receive based upon the channels you watch"

And in personalised mode, the consequence is written down:

"if you have not watched a channel for a number of months, we stop sending you Go Live notifications for that channel"

In other words: someone who follows and does not watch drops out of the alert channel on their own, by platform decision. Any page selling you "every follower is an alert when you go live" is promising something Twitch contradicts in writing.

This site does not sell that. What the count does is something else, and it is real.

What the count actually does

It stays visible, in the place where the decision happens.

A Twitch channel is a page like any other: someone opens a clip that circulated, clicks the link you left on another network, or scrolls a category and stops at your name. On most of those visits you are offline — and what answers for you is what is written there.

One detail of the official API is worth knowing, and it changes how to think about the number: to third parties, Twitch returns only the total. The named list of who follows is given only to the channel itself or to an authorised moderator. Which means the number is public and its composition is not auditable from outside.

What about discovery?

Here the honest answer is "we did not find it".

Twitch's official page on discovery describes the home as personalised recommendation for each logged-in viewer, based on what they have watched. It does not mention follower count as a factor. We looked for an official statement that followers influence position in a category or on the home page and found none.

That does not prove it has no influence — it proves there is no source for claiming it does. So we do not claim it.
